Teaching Art & IT in a unique and holistic way

At Milbourne Lodge we believe that Art & IT are essential elements of a balanced and rounded education.

By working with an ambitious and rich curriculum, that is grounded in wellbeing, we set aspirational creative targets. Combining the strength of both subjects our pupils achieve outstanding results.

We are committed to helping our girls and boys experience, value and enjoy these lessons as a means of communication and creative expression.

``Art and IT lessons are outstanding.``

Combining our strengths in Art & IT

We have developed a unique way of inspiring our pupils. Living in a world that is constantly changing we strive to embrace these innovations. Although our lessons are taught separately, we plan and work closely together to deliver joint outcomes.
A new theme is chosen each year, deliberately very different from the last. Examples include ‘It’s a Wild World’, ‘Shoes’, ‘Sport’, ‘Money Can’t Buy’, ‘Numbers’, ‘The Secret Garden’ and ‘Portmeirion’.

A strong emphasis on wellbeing is nurtured in both our departments. We have recently developed and built our own Outdoor Learning Area at Milbourne Lodge which allows us to focus strongly on nature and the benefits of learning outside.

Celebrating Success and Community links

To showcase pupils work, we enter national competitions and have had considerable success. Milbourne’s Art & IT have been exhibited at The Royal College of Art, The National Gallery, The Saatchi Gallery, The Northampton Museum of Shoes, The Natural History Museum, The Houses of Parliament, RHS Wisley, The British Film Institute (BFI) and Edinburgh Film Festival.

We enjoy the opportunity to work with our local community.
The best way to experience our unique projects is to visit our departments during one of our termly Open Days, and view our previous Art & IT projects on our Vimeo Channel.

Our projects

Portmeirion 2023

This project was inspired by the enchanting and colourful Italianate style village on the coast of North Wales. Pupils spent a year learning to ‘cherish the past, adorn the present and construct for the future’ in the words of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the uniquely eccentric architect of Portmeirion.

Numbers 2022

Our Numbers theme took Prep school pupils (Year 3 to Year 8) on a wonderful journey of exploration.

Our final Art & IT projects reflect the depth of research and learning achieved.

The Secret Garden 2021

Based on the life and times of Frances Hodgson Burnett pupils began this project by reading the story of ‘The Secret Garden’ before enjoying a red-carpet screening of the 1993 version of the film.

Both proved inspirational when we once again found ourselves in Lockdown during Spring term. With the arrival of the Summer term came a welcome return to classrooms and pupils then enjoyed creating their own Secret Garden as well as working together on film and animation projects.

Begin an unforgettable adventure.
