Literacy Week and World Book Day 2022
The Pre-Prep enjoyed their Literacy week last week and all the various activities on offer.
The week started with a handwriting competition where the staff were immensely proud of the neat and legible entries.
Tuesday was the very challenging Spellathon where there was clear evidence of the fabulous efforts to use phonic knowledge to write unfamiliar words.
On Wednesday it was a delight to see shared reading of books that the children brought from home. The afternoon saw the children solving the mystery of who was behind the book in each of the ‘Who’s Reading’ photographs. It was wonderful to see so many use the clues in the pictures.
Thursday was the highlight of the week with us all dressing up in our favourite characters to celebrate World Book Day. The array of costumes during the parade made everyone feel as though they had been transported into a story wonderland. Each class also focussed on a different text and our knowledge of various authors was developed.
Friday was the end of a very busy and productive week, and we celebrated those who had won prizes. The efforts by all over the course of the week were both impressive and inspiring. Slightly delayed but no less fabulous was our visit by local author Matthew Howorth on Tuesday. His assembly was inspirational and all the children enjoyed the workshops. Thank you to all the children, parents and staff for their support.
