There are two main entrance points to Milbourne Lodge; one into Reception in the Pre-Prep and the other at 7+ into the Prep School.
Entry into Reception is selective. Children are admitted into Reception in the September following their 4th birthday. Parents are invited to register their interest in a Reception place by completing a Registration Form and paying a Registration Fee. Registrations are accepted from birth.
Approximately 18 months prior to the appropriate entry date, we invite groups of children, who are registered for Reception entry to visit the school and spend some time with the EYFS staff at our Activity Time. These sessions are very informal. We put out a variety of activities for the children to play with and spend time interacting with them and see how they interact with the other children. We also require a report from their nursery school or current setting, should they be attending one. This gives us a more rounded picture of the children’s characters and together with observations from ‘Activity Time’ assists us in making a decision as to whether we feel Milbourne Lodge might be a suitable learning environment for them.
Following these sessions, we will make the offer of places in Reception. We currently have 32 places across our two Reception classes. Parents are given 3 weeks to accept the offer and return the acceptance form with the deposit.

Entry at 7+ is selective and our Admissions Test is held in the November before the year of joining.
The Test covers Maths and English and there is also an informal discussion with a senior member of staff. The children also take part in a games session with our sports staff.

Early registration is encouraged to secure an Assessment place.
Entrance into other Year Groups is dealt with on an individual basis. Children considering joining the school will be invited to attend a ‘Taster Day’ during which they will sit our Admissions Test (English and Maths) and be observed during the day. This assessment helps to determine whether or not they would benefit from the education that Milbourne Lodge offers. Parents will be asked about their child’s general development and any identified special educational needs prior to a place being offered.
Places are not automatic, a place will not be offered if we judge that a child’s development is below expectation or that they will not flourish in the environment we offer. A reference request will be sent to the current school of any applicant.
Registration – A £150 Registration Fee is payable on return of the Registration Form. This can be paid by cheque or bank transfer. We strongly encourage a visit to the school before you consider registration. We recommend an initial visit on one of our Open Mornings, followed by an appointment with Mrs Waite for a more personal visit should you have more specific or individual questions. Priority is given to siblings although this does not guarantee the offer of a place.
The Admissions Process
Enquiry from a Prospective Parent
The School Prospectus is sent. This contains the Registration Form.
Prospective parents visit the school at an Open Morning. Open Mornings are held each term.
The Registration Form is completed and received by the school along with the Registration Fee of £150.
Prospective parents have the option of a personal appointment with the Head.
The child visits the school for an assessment.
A report is requested from the current school or setting.
If a child is considered suitable to join Milbourne Lodge, an offer letter is sent confirming the offer of a place and requesting the return of the Acceptance Form and Acceptance Deposit (£1,000).
The Acceptance Form and Acceptance Deposit are received and acknowledged.
New Joiners’ Information is sent out in the Summer Term before the September start date. This includes an invitation to a Welcome Afternoon for parents and children. This event is usually held in June.
