History

The History department follows a chronological approach to the study of British history so that pupils acquire the full breadth of historical knowledge while enjoying their learning of key events that have shaped this country. We begin in the first year with prehistoric studies and then progress through the medieval, early modern and modern periods to the beginning of the twentieth century, before we specialise in preparing pupils for their final Common Entrance or scholarship examinations.

Underlying our teaching approach is a desire to enthuse the children for history, so we encourage children to take an active role where possible in their learning of the events and the acquisition of important concepts and skills. Our ambition at Milbourne Lodge is to engage the pupils in such a way that History is their best and favourite subject.
