UKMT Maths Challenges

Whilst Milbourne has had a long history of success in the Maths Challenges 2017/18 has been our most successful year to date. We are very proud of the achievements of all the pupils in these national competitions and it demonstrates the commitment we have to extending all our pupils in Maths.

Primary Challenge
This is designed for Years 5 & 6, although here at Milbourne everyone from Year 3 to 6 takes part.  The awards went to pupils in Year 3 to 6.

Gold Award: 10 pupils (all 10 going through to the next round)
Silver Award: 16 pupils
Bronze Award:  26 pupils

Follow-on Round

Gold Award: 1 pupil
Silver Award: 1 pupil
Bronze Award: 6 pupils

Junior Challenge
This is designed for Years 7 & 8, although here at Milbourne everyone from Year 3 upwards had a go, awards went to those from Year 4 to 8.

Gold Award: 16 pupils
Silver Award: 10 pupils
Bronze Award: 21 pupils

4 pupils made it through to the Kangaroo round and a further 4 to the even higher Junior Maths Olympiad round.

Intermediate Challenge
This is designed for Years 9 – 11, although at Milbourne everyone in Years 6 – 8 takes part and certificates were awarded in all three year groups that took part.  All of these pupils were 1, 2 or 3 years younger than the competition was designed for, so to get so many awards is exceptional.

Gold Award: 2 pupils
Silver Award: 6 pupils
Bronze Award: 11 pupils

Two pupils made it through to the Grey Kangaroo follow on round and one Year 7 pupil made it to the prestigious Cayley Olympiad, where he was pitted against Year 9 pupils and came away with a Merit award (the highest you can get).
