Prep School Learning Platform - Miscrosoft Teams

All pupils in the Prep School have been signed up to Office365, and we will be specifically using Teams as our main form of communication and interaction with the pupils during this period of Online Teaching and Learning.

What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a digital hub that brings conversations, content, resources and apps together in one place creating a vibrant learning environment.

How will it work?

Lessons will still run for students, with the teacher talking to them through the computer screen rather than at the front of the classroom. This face to face contact will allow the teacher to keep track of students and give students the chance to ask questions, keeping their lesson as similar as possible to learning in school.

Different subjects will sit in different channels and these will also become a place to go for any resources shared by the teacher, or recordings of classes to go over the information.

Pupils will still hand in homework through Microsoft Teams and teachers will offer high quality feedback – these tools will allow some normality where schooling is concerned.

Why is it perfect for our families?

  • Face to face contact – pupils and teachers still have face to face contact which is so important in making sure wellbeing, as well as academics are monitored. At a time where so much change is happening, our teachers want to be there to support pupils and face to face contact makes this easier to do.
  • Virtual classroom – keeping a lesson routine is vital for our families’ wellbeing: structure will help pupils feel less overwhelmed with change and will also help parents know how to manage their time and energy.
  • Easily accessible – access from phone or desktop with easy to use, intuitive software.

How do I access the resources?

More information on using Teams and Office 365 for remote learning is available from Microsoft here.

Pre-Prep Learning Platforms - Seesaw, Google Meet and Reading Planet Online

Seesaw – How does it work?

Seesaw is an award-winning digital portfolio that allows you to see your child’s learning like never before. Teachers, parents and children can all access videos, audio recordings and notes in one place, taking the onus off solely the parent supporting their child’s learning.

Activities have been prepared for the children associated with each subject on their timetable. These activities will be assigned on Seesaw the evening before and please note that this will be the only time during the day that work will be posted. Weekend challenges will also be set on a Friday afternoon to support usual home learning, such as times tables and/or spellings.

On a teaching day morning, parents and children will log in to Seesaw where the teacher will have a daily check in with pupils (read a story, say hello, set instructions for the day). Then at the end of the day, the parent and child log back in to add photos and videos, documenting the day’s learning that the teacher can then comment on.

Seesaw is an eco-friendly platform, which allows for minimal printing should you wish. Please do not feel as though you need to print out everything which is uploaded onto the system. Generally, we are happy for you to make your own judgement on how your child completes their work, taking into consideration the resources you have at home.

There is an expectation that work is returned to class teachers. Due to differing family situations, we understand that this will be done as and when possible, but ideally staff would appreciate work to be returned on the day it has been set for. This will ensure they can give timely feedback.

Google Meets – How does this work?

We will be using Google Meet as our platform to facilitate live interactions with the children –  synchronous learning

The weekly timetables detail when live teaching takes place and in which area of learning – they are highlighted in bold on the year group timetables.  We understand that life and your own jobs are pressured and busy and that you may not be able to attend a synchronous session. The lessons will be recorded and shared through links on Seesaw and the teachers will also be happy to discuss any issues or queries that arise from any sessions viewed later.

Please follow the link below for a video explaining how to access and use Google Meet successfully.  Links  will be provided on Seesaw for each session which will take your child straight to the live interaction at the scheduled time. Please read these announcements on Seesaw carefully as your child may be given further instructions; for example, what resources they need to have with them.

Reading Planet – Online

We have introduced Reading Planet Online as our Reading Platform for children in the Pre-Prep. Each child will be provided with a log in and password to access this platform.

Children will have access to a set of books assigned specifically for them. Following this, a new set of books will be assigned each week. Your child should be able to read the assigned books independently. However, you may wish to listen to your child read in the same way that you would with our school reading books. The only thing we ask is that your child completes the end-of-book quiz on their own. Lastly, and in order for us to see that your child has completed a book, we kindly ask that they click ‘Finished’ on the correct book, under the ‘My Books’ tab on their homepage.
