Years 1 and 2

In Years 1 and 2 we build on the enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning fostered in Reception. Our curriculum takes the best elements of traditional teaching, placing an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy, strongly supported by a broard range of subjects and activities designed to widen horizons and develop the children's imagination. All children benefit from specialist teachers for French, Music and Physical Education ensuring that high standards are achieved in all areas.

Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard allowing teachers to access vibrant and interactive materials. Teaching and learning, at any stage of education, needs to be stimulating and in the Pre-Prep the foundations are laid for the Milbourne tradition of combining hard work with fun. The curriculum is planned with traditional subjects in mind and subejct areas covered include History, Geography, Science, RE, Art and ICT. 

The curriculum is explained to parents at the beginning of each term and we encourage a working partnership, recognising that learning goes beyond the classroom. Daily contact with parents is achieved using a home/school communication book and through contact with the staff at the beginning and end of each day. More formal opportunities to discuss a child’s progress and attainment are available through Parents’ Evenings and written reports.

By the end of the Pre-Prep years your child will have received a thorough academic grounding and will be ready to build on this foundation in the Prep School.
