Mathematics

The Mathematics Department prepares children for pre-tests at age 11 and for public school Scholarship or Common Entrance examinations at age 13.

Up to the age of 11, pupils have one Maths lesson every day which increases to six lessons a week by the age of 13.

To this end the teaching, revision and practising of past papers are over and above the requirements, both in quality and quantity. Many top grades have been achieved in all these examinations.

As well as establishing the basic techniques in the subject; problem and puzzle work is developed with the help of the United Kingdom Maths Challenges. Children take part in the Junior (Under 13) and Intermediate (Under 16) Challenges - and the follow on papers. Many outstanding results have been obtained producing Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates and medals. Younger children take part in the Primary Maths Challenge (Under 11).

The Team Maths Challenge is also often entered which takes place at one of the London schools.
