At Milbourne Lodge we offer the following extra-curricular activities:
- Chess
- Homework Group
- Judo
- Music
- Speech & Drama
- Tennis
Chess
This takes place on a Thursday and Friday lunchtime. Beginners start in the Thursday group and intermediates/advanced attend the Friday group.
Visiting chess teachers run these classes.
Children take part in the annual Chess Challenge.
Homework Group
This is available to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd year children (National Curriculum Years 3, 4 and 5) and runs from the end of the school day for these year groups until 5.05pm.
Children have a drink and a snack and then get on with their homework/read under supervision until the bell goes at 5.05pm, when the older year groups finish school.
Children must be signed up for homework group in advance and for specific days eg every Monday and Wednesday.
Judo
This takes place on Wednesday afternoons after school.
Year 3 children have a 30 minute class from 3.50pm - 4.20pm whilst the older children have a 45 minute class from either 4.20pm - 5.05pm or 5.10pm - 5.55pm depending on when their school day ends.
Judo classes are taken by a visiting teacher who is a 3rd Dan Black Belt.
Music
Children have the opportunity of learning a wide range of musical instruments at Milbourne Lodge.
Currently visiting staff offer Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Music Theory and Voice lessons although our Director of Music can always source staff for additional instruments if required.
These lessons take place during lunchtimes, games sessions or after school and children taking an instrument/voice lessons are encouraged to join the school orchestra and choir and one of the various ensemble groups run by various members of the visiting music staff.
Speech & Drama
These classes are currently available to our 3rd - top year children (National Curriculum Years 5 - 8) and take place on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes and after school. Children can join group lessons or have individual/duo lessons.
Pupils work towards the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations. These examinations range from the speaking of verse and prose, acting, reading for performance and mime.
Tennis
Available to all, these 30 minute classes take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes and during some games sessions.
Our visiting teacher is a Level 2 LTA coach and the current manager for U12 Surrey girls.

In all cases a term's written notice or fees in lieu is required to cease any of these classes
