Latin and Greek

Milbourne Lodge has a particularly strong tradition in Latin and Greek teaching. Latin is introduced at an early stage for the A-stream, whilst Classical mythology is taught to all pupils from the first form upwards.

Pupils begin Greek language from the third form (10+) with one lesson per week. This rises to three lessons per week in the Lower and Upper Sixth, when they are prepared for the scholarship examinations in Latin and Greek at major public schools including Eton, Winchester and Westminster. Pupils from Milbourne Lodge have distinguished themselves in these exams over the years and the former headmaster Mr Hale described 2004 as an 'annus mirabilis'.
